Phuket Elephant Heaven has joined the growing movement towards ethical elephant tourism and adopted our ‘Saddle Off’ model based on compassion and respect for elephants, conceived by Lek Chailert of Save Elephant Foundation, and promoted by Asian Elephant Projects.
This new project in Phuket now provides a caring home in nature for three elephants rescued from elephant riding. The owner of the project, Kong, comes from a family who has lived and worked with elephants for generations. After spending time at Elephant Nature Park, Kong was inspired to make the transition to a responsible, ethical form of elephant tourism for the benefit of the elephants in his care. It took almost a year to build the elephant home of his dreams. Today these rescued elephants are celebrating their newfound liberty with wonder and joy – trumpeting and exploring their new jungle habitat for the first time in their lives.
The project provides morning and afternoon half-day visits as well as a one week volunteer program. By visiting Phuket Elephant Heaven you are directly supporting responsible ecotourism and making it possible for these elephants to live a more natural life with respect and dignity.

The owner of this project, Kong, and his family have a generations-old association with elephants and used to provide elephant riding. However, after spending time at Elephant Nature Park with founder, Lek Chailert, he decided to adopt the ‘Saddle Off’ model and build the elephant home in the forest that he had always imagined. This project is now home to three rescued elephants - Pan Kham (born 1958), Wasana (born 1973), and Sarah (born 1968). These elephants are relishing their newfound freedom in nature and adapting to this monumental change in their lives. If the project receives enough support from visitors, Kong hopes to rescue three more elephants under contract, working in elephant riding, to join the herd at Phuket Elephant Heaven.
